Travel South Yorkshire are continually seeking ways to improve the customer experience and how we provide transport information across our travel tools, interchanges, bus stops and website.

We want to ensure that everyone has the right travel information at the right time, in the right format.

We’re seeking feedback on a variety of new and redesigned customer information products. Each section below details a specific product and why we're reviewing the design, with information about where you can see the new products on display and how you can share your views.

No matter whether you're a regular traveller in South Yorkshire, a person who normally travels by car, or someone with an interest in transport or design, we'd love to hear from you!

Current projects and surveys:

What we're doing:

At some bus stops we are currently unable to provide timetable information because the timetable carousels are damaged. A number of those bus stops also have a back of shelter poster case. This new poster is designed to be displayed in the shelter poster cases, offering an alternative way for us to provide timetable information at these bus stops.

The timetable you would normally see in the carousel is provided at the bottom of the poster. We've also added quick links to key travel information sources and easy to scan QR codes, and are also trialling the idea of adding wayfinding information for local points of interest

What we're doing:

We’re working on improvements to the information provided at bus stops.

At the moment bus stops typically have a paper timetable displaying static information. Some stops also have separate electronic information displays which show real-time information.

We're trialling the use of E-Ink devices, which have the ability to provide both static timetable information and real-time timetable information using more detailed displays. Customers can also press buttons on the device to change the content being displayed or have the device read the information aloud.

E-Ink Timetable Device

Trial E-Ink Timetable Device

What we're trying to achieve:

This is a trial to assess the technology, which could provide benefits including:

  • Live information could be provided at more bus stops, as this device can be attached to either shelters or poles. Traditional electronic displays require a shelter and mains power.
  • Timetable information can be updated instantly when services change, avoiding the need for frequent reprinting of paper timetables and visits by staff.
  • Providing an audio read out of the information on screen can help improve accessibility, particularly for customers with visual impairments.

Where you can see this trial:

What we're doing:

We’re working on a new South Yorkshire Rail Network Diagram, with the aim of making it easier to view train and tram routes and connections across South Yorkshire and beyond. The latest versions of the new design are now available.

In the summer we shared the first version of our new rail network diagram (shown on the right below). We received a range of comments about the design, and while many people liked the combination of train and tram routes into a single map, a number of responses highlighted concerns about usability and felt that the diagram needed more geographic accuracy. Thank you to everyone who provided feedback about the design.

We've reviewed all the feedback for the design and developed an updated version which we are now sharing for feedback. Changes to the design include:

  • A new separate train-only map with additional train route and station information for nearby areas. We'll decide on which map to display at train stations and interchanges based on what is most relevant to the location, and both maps will be available to download from our website.
  • The diagram has been adjusted to have greater geographic accuracy.
  • All tram stops are now listed on the train and tram map.
  • A single train route is shown to help simplify the diagram, instead of the previous regional and intercity separation.
  • Information about facilities at train stations has been updated.

What we're doing:

We're looking to improve the customer experience at Sheffield Interchange, and your feedback is essential.

Our short survey asks about stand locations, travel information, and accessibility features to help us better understand how the interchange is working for you.

What we're trying to achieve:

Your responses will guide future improvements and ensure the interchange meets the needs of all passengers.

How you can provide feedback:

The survey has now closed. Thank you to everyone who provided their feedback. We're currently analysing the results.

This page will be updated regularly with new products and surveys, plus updates on the product development process and how we're incorporating your feedback. You can follow Travel South Yorkshire on X @TravelSYorks to get notified.
