Add bus travel to your train tickets

PlusBus is a discounted bus (and tram in South Yorkshire) ticket that can only be purchased as an add-on to an eligible train ticket. It provides unlimited travel all day on services within a PlusBus travel zone (e.g. South Yorkshire). There are no peak hour restrictions, so you can hop on and off as much as you like, all day.

You can add a South Yorkshire PlusBus ticket to your train ticket when you’re either:

  • Travelling into South Yorkshire from another region by train and need to use the bus or tram once you’re in South Yorkshire
  • Travelling out of the South Yorkshire region by train and need to use the bus or tram to get to the train station

You cannot buy a PlusBus ticket if you're travelling between two stations within the same PlusBus travel zone (e.g. South Yorkshire). For example, a train ticket from Doncaster to Sheffield would not be eligible but a train ticket between Doncaster and Hull would qualify.

PlusBus operates in other regions too, check the PlusBus website for full information including fares and list of participating operators.

You can buy PlusBus tickets:

  • Online when you buy your train ticket
  • At any National Rail station ticket office
  • Self-service train ticket machines

Railcard holders get 33% off and children get 50% off day ticket prices. Season tickets are available for commuters.

South Yorkshire PlusBus travel zone includes:

  • Barnsley
  • Doncaster
  • Rotherham
  • Sheffield & Meadowhall
