Travel advice for the mourning period

Travel advice for the mourning period

This is an archive article from 12 September 2022

The nation is now observing a period of mourning following the death of HM Queen Elizabeth II. We understand that many people want to pay their respects and attend ceremonial and commemorative events across the region. We are working with operators to keep South Yorkshire moving and ensure that people can travel safely. We ask for your patience during this time and that you:

  • Plan ahead and check your travel - use our travel tools

  • Allow more time for journeys, especially on Monday 19 September

Up to Sunday 18 September

A normal service will run across bus, tram and train.

Monday 19 September – Bank Holiday

The Queen’s state funeral will take place at 11.00am at Westminster Abbey, London. This day has been designated a national bank holiday, therefore a Sunday service will operate across the bus and tram network:

Bus

  • Buses will be running a Sunday service

  • Community Transport (Door2Door) will not be running

  • There may be some delays between 10.00am - 2.00pm whilst drivers pay their respect and observe the national two-minute silence

Tram

  • Supertram will be running a Sunday service

  • Essential rail replacement work is planned for Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 September which will impact Blue and Purple Route tram services. Find out more on our Supertram updates page.

Rail

  • Regional and national operators will be running a full Monday timetable throughout the day.

  • Planned industrial action on Thursday 15 and Saturday 17 September has been cancelled and a full service will operate on these days.

  • Planned engineering works on the Midland Mainline have been cancelled so that East Midlands Railway can run a full timetable.

Our Traveline team will be open from 8.00am to 7.00pm if you need help planning your journey.

We advise you to plan and check your travel ahead to avoid delays on this day.

Tuesday 20 September

A normal service will run across bus, tram and train.

If anyone in South Yorkshire wishes to pay their respects to the Royal Family at this time of national mourning, an online book of condolence is now available on the Royal Family website. Cards of condolence are also available at bus interchanges across the region.
