Industrial action affecting rail services - September 2022

This is an archive article from 7 September 2022

Update: The Rail, Maritime and Transport (RMT) Union has announced that planned strikes on the 15 and 17 September will be cancelled as a mark of respect for Queen Elizabeth II. TSSA have also cancelled planned action on 26 September.

Thursday 15 and Saturday 17 September

Due to industrial action there will be significant disruption to rail services on Thursday 15 and Saturday 17 September.

  • Thursday 15 September – strike action by the ASLEF and RMT unions, involving workers at Northern, Cross Country, LNER and TPE

  • Saturday 17 September – strike action by the RMT union involving Network Rail, Northern, TPE, Cross Country, LNER and EMR

Monday 26 and Tuesday 27 September

The TSSA union have planned strike action from 12:00 on Monday 26 to 11:59 on Tuesday 27 September which will affect services on Cross Country, LNER, Network Rail, TPE and EMR but not Northern.

Customers are advised to only travel if necessary.

During this time there will be significantly fewer trains running. Any services which do run will be extremely busy and operate a reduced timetable. Plan ahead and leave extra time to allow for severe disruption and short-notice changes.

Check your journey by visiting National Rail or the train operating company’s website.

Tickets

Operators are suspending sales of advance tickets for the strike dates to minimise disruption. Some tickets are usable on dates leading up to the strike action and customers are advised to check with the rail operator before travel.

Customers with tickets are advised to contact the company from which they purchased their products to enquire about any potential refund.

Most ticket offices across the region are expected to be closed, this will reduce the range of tickets available.

Plan before you travel:

Buses in the South Yorkshire region will be running a normal timetable but, due to disruption on the rail network, services may be busier than normal.
