World Car-Free Day 22 September
This is an archive article from 17 September 2021
Cities across the globe are celebrating World Car-Free Day on 22 September, encouraging motorists to give up their cars for a day. The event highlights the benefits of going car-free —including reduced air pollution and opting for more sustainable and active ways of travelling like walking and cycling.
The aim of the day is to give us all a reminder of what our community would be like with fewer cars on the road. Something we did experience in the height of the covid-19 pandemic. With more cars on the roads now restrictions have been lifted, we’re welcoming World Car-Free Day and the opportunity to use other modes of transport.
Just one bus can take up to 75 cars off the road
So, why not switch to public transport, or try walking or cycling for those shorter trips. You could even take advantage of the Summer Sale on TravelMaster tickets for bus, tram and train passengers in South Yorkshire - prices have been slashed by up to 25% this Summer.
The Summer Sale applies to all adult TravelMaster tickets, including multi-mode 1-Day, 7-Day, 28-Day and Annual Tickets, and the brand new Flexi5.
The Summer Sale ends Monday 27 September. Visit the TravelMaster Summer Sale page for more information.
