Urban Cycling Skills Webinar

Recent government announcements have shown increased support and encouragement for cycling as way to travel not only as a commuter, but in everyday life. The Bike Repair Voucher Scheme has asked repair services all over the UK to sign up as participants, and the first £50 vouchers will soon be being used to help old bikes back on the roads again.

It’s not always that simple though, and in the Sheffield City region, infrastructure can often be tricky to navigate for cyclists. Investment from central government and the newly announced Active Travel England manifesto brings more hope to the table.

Newly created cycle lanes, increased access to loaning bikes, GP’s being able to prescribe cycling as a remedy are all ways that cycling is being moved forward by giving more money and local powers to really get behind the cycling renaissance of 2020. The tragedy of the pandemic can’t be forgotten of course, but it has shed light on why more changes need to be made in the UK to support cycling and walking.

The webinar will be hosted by Love to Ride experts Jack Windle (Love to Ride Senior Projects Manager) and David Bocking (Love to Ride South Yorkshire). Guest speakers are Dame Sarah Storey, Sheffield City Region Active Travel Commissioner and Rebecca Mews from the Travel South Yorkshire Active Travel team.

The session aims to help anyone who is thinking about cycling to work, or has just started to cycle to work, through to those who would like to build-up their road confidence. It will provide an overview of how to safely and confidently get from A to B, how to make your bike roadworthy and provide some great tips and ideas for navigating your way in more busy areas.
